Registration for 2018-19 sessions of Club Discovery (Club D) is now open! Club D is a free, inclusive after-school program designed to provide a framework for children ages 6 - 12 with and without special needs to investigate their world in a safe environment. During Club D, children will be learning through building friendships, strong bodies, and relationships with animals. Life skills will be practiced in a community setting as children sing, move, play games, and cook good food together.
BONUS! Children who complete three out of the five sessions are awarded a FREE year-long family membership to Creative Discovery Museum! Qualifying families will receive the memberships mid-May 2019.
Jump Into Fitness
Tuesday, Sept. 11 through Tuesday, Oct. 2
Each week, students will learn a new, fun activity from fitness professionals. A Yoga instructor will demonstrate how to use yoga to calm down in stressful situations. Students will take a field trip to High Point Climbing and Fitness to learn how to conquer the fear of heights in a safe and structured environment. Line dancing will be used to help students discover how to multiply steps and follow directions. And lastly, we will study the fundamentals of Martial Arts.
Hello from Japan!
Tuesday, Oct. 23 through Tuesday, Nov. 13
This session is focused on our traveling exhibit, Hello from Japan! Students will explore an immersive, yet small scale Tokyo streetscape and Shinto Shrine park. They will learn how ancient traditions of Japan co – exist with the pervasive contemporary culture of Kawaii, or cute, graphics and products. Students will be introduced to the art of calligraphy. They will create their own mascot that incorporates the Kawaii aesthetic. Students will also learn about Bento Boxes and create an art piece that would representative of the Japanese meal.
